Ads or Advertising

Walking around everywhere, there are ads in my face like I can't get them to go around unless I am in my house.. I see ads on billboards, cars, streets, sidewalks, signs, posters, just everywhere possible and this is driving me nuts.. They even started to put ads on buses and not just small ones but make the whole bus into an one big ad for something like yellowpages or whoever pays for them.. As for even weirder, the subway stations are starting to put ads everywhere they can, on the floors, the ceilings, the walls, the doors eveywhere possible.. Driving me nuts, but the strangest place is on the subway they are starting to make them over, and soon we will see whole subways with ads on them...

Doesn't anyone know how to pay for things without using ads? I have never figured this out, how can we go about this world without seeing any ads, and still make enough money? Well my idea is to use word of mouth, and spread your message by talking to people.. If people are really interested they will come visit, and bring more people along.. I remember a few years ago this company was making motor scotters and they became very very popular.. Not only did they not put ads out they kept it a secret until they were done... People all thought of very different products to what came out, and in the end was the most popular product that year... Why can't we do that more often and use less advertising to clean up this world and not kill as many trees..

Well to end this off, there was this guy who put his forehead up for sell on ebay, and he told people they can advertise on his forehand... The higher winner would have their logo or band name on his forehead for awhile... I thought this makes ads even worse, and shows people don't really understand ads anymore... Advertising is the worse form to get your product or company out to the mass, we need more word of mouth..

i like advertising. good advertising is an artform in its own right. bad advertising sucks though.

i think adds on public transit are good. london has one of the best and most comprehensive transit systems in the world and it is completely covered in ads.

would you prefer to pay more for your ttc tickets? if more advertising on subways and buses meant more ttc service and cheaper tickets, i'd be all for it.

i see your point though. adds in public spaces not associated with public transit are annoying. but in general i enjoy advertising and find it interesting. it doesn't make me buy any more stuff (there aren't any adds for synthesizers on billboards!) and it really is just an urban phenomenon. if you can't stand the adds you should move to the country. completely commercial free! except sometimes the country smells like pig manure.

the problem is untargeted ads. wouldn't you prefer a world where the ads are customized to what you like? so for instance jeff, wouldn't you prefer to see ads that relate to what you're doing + what you're interested in, like synthesizers and gloomy?

one day, when everything about you is known, ads will be so targeted that they won't be needed -- you'll think about something, and the appropriate product will be purchased ;)
